The sectional appendix has them closed but they are still staffed

I can't see anything in the SA about them being closed, and since they are all on busy public roads that would be highly unlikely. I'm looking at (eg for Plumpton) Table A Diagram SO590 002 of the SA dated December 2009, updated to supplement 24 of 5 September 2015, currently available on the NR website.

When Littlehaven was converted from manned gates to barriers in 2012, inquirers were told that it would probably be operated from the former gate box for "a couple of years" before control via CCTV was commissioned. Maybe someone with local knowledge can tell us whether this has happened yet.

I think you will find that Littlehaven Crossing is CCTV, controlled from Three Bridges Panel 7. Not sure when the work was carried out, but I suggest that it was done as part of the resignalling between Horsham and Arundel, also part of Panel 7. The former gate box (formerly a signal box) now functions as a ticket office only, staffed by the TOC.

Plumpton Gate Box is still functioning as a gate box complete with wheel-worked gates. Plumpton is due to be abolished sometime this year and the crossing converted from a gated crossing to MCB-OD. The gate box (formerly a signal box) is Grade 2 listed.

Whyteleafe South Gate box is still functioning in the same way that it has done so since opening in 19/12/1982. In the back of the ticket office there is a small OCS type panel, complete with an illuminated track circuit paper diagram showing nearly the whole of the Caterham branch which controls both Whyteleafe South Crossing and Whyteleafe Crossing with the use of CCTV. It controls T564, T565, T565R, T566, T566R and T567. The SPT's for the stop signals connect with Three Bridges Panel 2. The situation for this OCS panel is likely to remain as it is until resignalling and transfer of control from Three Bridges ASC to Three Bridges ROC.

Is Lincoln road gate box near Enfield still open

Lincoln Road is permanently closed to vehicles but remains open to pedestrians. The crossing is only open between 0600 and 1800 Monday to Saturday. That was the situation as of last year and I doubt anything has changed.

There are long-term proposals for either a footbridge or a warning-light system to allow de-staffing.

That sounds very plausible. Littlehaven certainly did continue as a GB both (a) at the point when Horsham itself was resignalled, and (b) when the crossing was converted to barriers. It was still my local station at that time.

The former SR knee frame had been decommissioned when the crossing was converted from gates to barriers, though it was deliberately left in the box at that time. At that time, which IIRC was after Horsham resignalling but before the Horsham-Arundel scheme, an electrical console was provided to operate the crossing and signal slots.
