Stone Crossing Level Crossing

Unread postby Peter Gibbons » Tue Jan 5, 2016 9:22 pm

I understand that for many years the vehicular level crossing at Stone Crossing has been closed more or less since privatisation, although the level crossing gates have remained in situ. It would seem that Network Rail want to re-enforce the closure by erecting a very high palisade fence in front the gates. Looks like a bit of an overkill perhaps or is there a genuine reason behind this? The station platforms are open and adjacent and pedestrians are able to cross when the ticket office is manned.

If the road crossing is permanently closed, wouldn't erection of the metal fence simply be a precursor to removing the wooden gates?

I don't know the site, but I'm guessing when the old crossing gates are removed, the crossing road deck will remain and it will become an access point for road/rail vehicles.
