Can anyone tell me please where the C relates to on the ELR TJC1? I know the TJ refers to Tapton Junction.

When were ELRs first allocated? Some historical ones like OWW are understandable, but choosing Colne seems a bit odd.

Thanks for that but I have to ask is that even geographically possible? I thought an ELR referred to the start and end of that section of railway. How can the section from Tapton at Chesterfield end at Colne in Lancashire?

I wondered that too, I even thought there might be another Colne somewhere. But the answer is in the link, it takes the "old road" up to Rotherham, the part-closed Midland route to Leeds, then via Skipton.
