The original Soham diagram is far to big to be crammed into the available space. A new diagram has been made in the York red light style...

Looking good Richard.

Looks like a good 'starter' box for any new trainees that you may recruit.

Excellent progress - especially considering all the stuff (and undergrowth) that occupied that space only a couple of weeks ago and he had to shift before he could even begin to put the equipment in.

I've tried to give the impression they are older style colourlights with shelf type filament proving relays that drop out briefly during changeover from red to green etc

Excellent stuff !
Better to be thought a fool than to type a response that confirms it.

A milestone was passed last night.. 1000 metres of 0006/120007 0.75mm wire has been used. There is probably another 200 metres or so to go in.

The key token machine has been relocated nearer the Soham installation. For the first time i'm able to demonstrate the additional safety devices fully besides the starter release. Any signal proving contact broken at one end prevents a key being removed at both ends of the circuit. The starter release is withdrawn if the key is reinserted into the instrument or on receipt of and in phase signal from the far end (say if the key made it through the section with the starter passed at danger and inserted at the far end for some reason). Additionally there in an intermediate crossing indicator driven from the two instruments. This biassed to 'train coming' and moves to 'line clear' when all the keys are in and in phase transmissions have taken place.

And the Soham relay cabinet..

A good few years work in collecting the rather special relays required for this project.

On Thursday 1st September Soham was worked as part of the Ely simulation for the first time. There were some teething troubles, mainly with the computer interface not being wired correctly and the absence of a repeat computer screen. It turned out that i'd put a wire on a back contact instead of a front so it was easily sorted. The screen was an easy fix too. It was worked without the up distant as it hadn't been wired. This has now been done. The three barrier indicators were a voyage of discovery as i'd never noticed they didn't always ring when they operated. I'd seen the originals at Soham and another three stack at Whitlingham Junction but never noted that if they operated downwards only the top indicator rang but if they operate upwards each unit rings.

Still with all the clutter of construction but ready for use..

Richard omitted to mention he also added that large black object with a crank handle to the right of the frame.
Not yet in use on Thursday, but hopefully it will be capable of generating enough electricity to work No 4 point.

Oh yeah that little thing. It chucks out about 140 volts DC that needs to be regulated down to about 10 volts to operate my poor little model point motors..
