OBIT: Forbes Alexander

Unread postby John Hinson » Tue Jun 27, 2017 2:18 am

I have heard that Forbes Alexander died in hospital on Sunday. Years back he fought and beat cancer, seemingly through strength of will but later dementia took hold of his life and he became completely detached from the hobby that had been so strong. He had been seriously ill for a couple of weeks, much of which was spent in hospital although latterly he had returned to his care home in Oxted.

I had known him since the 1970s. At that time very records of signalling in Scotland were virtually non-existant and he, assisted by the late Ed Nicoll, had set about putting that right and the end result was more comprehensive than that for a lot of parts of the UK. What is now the SRS Signal Box Register for Scotland was largely based on his work.

Anybody requiring further information (including funeral details) is invited to contact me by PM.

Corrected with additional information 29/6/17.
