I hope that photo was taken during a suitable paws in traffic. I note the creature is collared. Was it out of use or being used as a reminder?

As you know, those levers are indeed out of use, notwithstaning the lever colours. The leftmost lever was collared "blocked to electric traction", which seems a trifle over-cautious as there is neither a third rail nor any connection to Network Rail's nearby 25kV metals. The signaller's comment on first reading of the pull plates was that whoever was responsible for the lever numbering must be barking.

Reminded me of an apocryphal story told by a well known Birmingham area relief man, (sadly no longer with us), who claimed that a signalman at Baggeridge Junction (bottom end of the Wombourn Railway) taught his dog to bark, "Woof Woof - Woof", when it saw a train tail lamp!

It also apparently, when the wages were delivered on a Thursday, took said pay packet in it's mouth and ran down through woods to 'The Crooked House' where the landlady extracted funds to cover the man's weekly tab and sent the dog back with the change!

Was the said dog taught to bark 6 times if it didn't see a tail lamp?

Regarding unofficial presences in signal boxes, I suppose not being a person, the dog didn't have to comply with the associated claws of the Rule Book ?

Anything known about what / why there's a short additional lever-like slot to the left of lever 1 quadrant's slot ? (For a 'setting' lever at some time ?)
[ Where is /was this anyway please ? - I haven't noticed it named anywhere : (Do 'we' know ?)
Looks possibly like a BR 'York'-type IFS panel up on the shelf.]

The lever frame is ex French Drove, GN&GE. I have not found any evidence the additional lever was ever fitted. The panel is ex Dagenham. It controls a mixture of semaphore and colourlights. Obviously the semaphores are motor or solenoid operated.

Thanks Mike and Richard: and JRB ....

That discounts my theory that it might've Dogsthorpe then.
Just pondering whether Kennelworth (K) has / had an ID-plated No.9 signal. :)

If it did it would need to be repeated and the relay name would be interesting.

Cesspit Sidings panel in all it's glory..

I believe it was ex Dogenham but stand to be corrected. Apparently our canine friend was having problems with the thumb switches.
