Blaenant GF

Blaenant GF was opened 26.10.1970. as a blockpost on the Ex.N & B Section between Neath & Brecon Junction and Onllwyn. Working was by written authority under signalman's control. After an incident the section to Onllwyn was worked by 'No Signalman Token' from 20.3.1987. Finally the GF was abolished c.12 1990. N. & B. Junction to Onllwyn became OTW
with staff. Does anyone know the exact closure date?

Garth,

I suppose you are aware that this work appears for the first time in the K2 for 29/12/1990 - 11/01/1991? The entry is undated but is in the section for forthcoming work, it is not a new item in the 'work already carried out' section, which suggests it was not missed from the previous edition erroneously and is now history. The entry is described as 'The following work is being carried out:- ' etc. As regards the GF it say this 'will be' abolished. The OTW is described as being introduced on 04/01/1991 or on completion of work.

I think from this we can gather that the job was carried out 29/12/1990 - 04/01/1991, i.e over the New Year holiday. A precise date is probably not to hand, in common with work carried out over extended commissioning weekends so whichever convention you use for dates like this (first / last date) would seem to be an accurate way of recording it.

Andy,

I think 29/12/1990-04/01/1991 is fine. So many dates are quoted in good faith, though exactly when the work was finished/commissioned is often difficult to prove. Many thanks.
