Can any members please help me,i am looking for closure dates for signalboxes that have been closed on this line i would be most grateful if you can let me know any information you have,was How Mill a block post or crossing box?

Allan,

I am not sure why you haven't had any replies on this. The North Eastern is hardly my "specialist subject" but I can confirm that How Mill was indeed a block post. My own records are in a rather large card-index system so producing a list of every box on the line and its closure date (if indeed I have it) would be a mammoth task but I can quote what I have for How Mill:
1874 - opened (26 levers)
1946 - new frame (26 levers)
???? - frame shortened to 11 levers
23/8/89 - closed

The shortening of the frame could be taken to imply that it was reduced to a gate box at that time but I don't think that was the case.

Many thanks for the information on How Mill yes I am surprised that I have had no replies somebody out there must be able to help?the Signalboxes on this line I do not know much about even though I worked as a Signalman ( not on this line)I did not take much notice of closures etc.

The 1960 SA shows How Mill as a block post, if it became a gate box obviously post that date. In 1961 it was open 7.00pm Sunday - 12 noon Sunday, and 2.00pm Sunday - 5.40pm Sunday, so almost continuosly.
