Black Dot

What does the black dot on some of the symbols to the left of each message in the lists mean? I'm referring to the symbols which turn yellow for new messages. The dot doesn't seem to merit a mention in the key at the bottom of the page.

I think that indicates any message that you have contributed to.

I had an idea that might be it, but there are plenty of threads I've contributed to where I don't see the dot. Don't worry though - If you can't answer, it's probably of no importance.

There is an option for me to run a re-scan and re-synchronise the dots, I will try it and see if it corrects that.

I have re-synchronised, not sure if that has corrected things.

The other thing I noticed is that the dots apparently only show for threads you have participated in during the last six months.

Aaah! That seems to fit what's happening - though I can't think why anyone would want to have that particular information - it might as well be during the last four months, two weeks and a day. Still, it's helpful if you don't look far into the history!

Thanks John.

Black Dots didn't help Billy Bones!

Actually, I find the black dots helpful on other fora that I occasionally dip into - with infrequent visiting 6 months is a sensible time period; I suppose the challenge for you Keith is to find a thread without black dots. :D
ND: Why is there a door handle on the inside of my airing cupboard?
MF: Because it's the fire exit from Narnia.

I like David Lynch films. I don't consider incomprehension to be a barrier to enjoyment.

Remember this is standard software that can be (and is) used for a variety of purposes. The "dots" feature would not have been provided unless somebody asked for it, so somebody, somewhere must feel that six months is appropriate to their use. One popular use is product support forums where users would be involved in far less threads than perhaps here, maybe it would have its benefits there. I agree it is pretty meaningless to us.
