View active topics doesn't produce anything in the way of posts.

Admittedly I'm browsing via Dolphin on Android ie - on the phone, so no
ND: Why is there a door handle on the inside of my airing cupboard?
MF: Because it's the fire exit from Narnia.

I like David Lynch films. I don't consider incomprehension to be a barrier to enjoyment.

Should be OK now. Thanks for the tip.

New look gave me a shock when I logged in, but now to try the rest of it.

Cheers

This is now working. The new version of forum software includes the now-common "Captcha" system which, quite frankly, is a system that drives me crazy so I apologise to any new members that find it the same but hopefully it will keep those irritating spammers away. We haven't suffered many but the numbers have increased recently - probably because they are desperate to find systems that don't use Captcha!

Great, innit! Within ten minutes the first of many automated spam messages arrived. From a little research it seems that all four types of lettering offered to me in this system (including one I can hardly read) have been cracked by the "spambots" so that "security feature" is a complete and utter waste of time.

I've implemented another method now, it won't stop the most determined but I don't want to hinder genuine users. I shall continue monitoring postings.

Seems to be working fine for me. Apart from the double take when I first went in

No difficulties with Midland colour scheme so far.

Thanks John.

Apologies for another comment - 'view active topics' (Southern, Chrome, Win7) isn't picking up the active topics in the Heritage Railways board.

Yes, that's probably so - I only activated the key ones. I'll do them all then.

Have we lost the link to the 'Signalbox' main site, or have I just not found it yet. It was quite useful. Otherwise, it all seems to work fine.
Thank you for all the effort you put into the forum, it is much appreciated.

You should get there by clicking on the PHPBB logo image. In due course I will replace that with an appropriate image to make things more like before.

While you're at it (and not knowing the capabilities of the program), is there any possibility of adding the "View new posts" option to the page we reach on logging in?

Ta very much.

Well . . . yes and no.

You and others think me a magician but I can only really implement third-party templates (building my own would take weeks) so have little control over features. In truth I have tested about ten different ones and rejected almost all as not being suitable for our needs for one reason or another. But as it happens, the one I have chosen and am testing at the moment has a lot of nice features, including a row of tabs along the top which includes "View New Posts".

There is little fine tuning left for me to do and I'm confident this will be ideal to be the default layout.

Of course there may be features that are missed by some but it is impossible to "please all of the people all of the time". I'm hopeful this will be seen as an improvement by most.

That Captcha thing always infuriates me! But if these crooks have managed to develop something that can read that writing, perhaps it could also decipher my handwriting. Pity they don't go straight and market it!

Thanks for all your efforts John. We do appreciate it.

No that's fair enough John, what's sensibly practicable is fine (and very pleased to hear it looks like it might work), but I don't know what it can be sensibly made to do so I thought I'd ask in the hope...

And thanks again... it is appreciated.
