Website Server Upgrade: Working from 10th Dec.2015; URL Info

Unread postby StevieG » Fri Dec 11, 2015 11:13 am

Many thanks to John for managing the server upgrade so professionally as usual (advance info. / website home page notifications etc.).

One tiny piece of info. which I wonder might be of use to anyone :
I usually access the forums by typing the first few letters of the page's URL and selecting the full URL from the dropdown list which I then see, to obtain the page.

Whereas the Forums' index page's URL used to be
http://www.signalbox.org/forum/index.php ,
it now seems to be
http://forum.signalbox.org/ .

Accessing the Forums' index page via 'the blower' symbol on the main website Homepage finds it anyway, no problem.

Thanks again John.

Thanks for spotting that, Steve.

I have put a redirect on which should automatically take you from one to the other. Hope that does the trick.

Best regards,

John

Sounds like a good idea John; thanks for trying it, though might it take a while to become effective? : Because at present, I'm getting :-

"Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, you@example.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log."

You're probably well aware of this John, but at present I'm just getting a list of "code" (rather than the relevant proper pages) when clicking on several of the badge links at the top of the home page.

Thought I'd better flag it up, just in case...(or in case it's just me!)

Best regards,
Chris

Not just you, I've tried that now and found a similar problem with some, but not all, of the 'badges' :-(

OK, thanks. Leave it with me.

I'm pretty sure that is a side-effect of their "fix" for the server yesterday. Rather than fix the fix myself I'll let them do so.

I normally log on this and other sites via a bookmark on my browser with a password manager (Lastpass) to enter the password. It's quite common after any upgrade to a system that the bookmark ceases to work. All I need do to fix it is to delete the bookmark and go in using a search for the site and create a fresh bookmark.

Now sorted.

Hmmm....well, I still get the same problem with 'badges' 4,13,16.
Also, I note that with 2,3,5,7,10 the 'badges' are missing from the top of the page when loaded.

Thanks. Both of those are related and are now being looked at.

These are now working now. If they appear otherwise you will need to refresh the page, or if that doesn't work, clear your browser cache.

Having just tried, I didn't get any redirect - simply a message stating that the URL /forum was not found.

That's been taken off to fix the other problems. We seem to be going round in circles. I will try and solve that another way.
