Smilies (number of)

I have just had to edit a post because it apparently contained to many smilies. However I had not added any, those that were there were in a quote from further up the thread. So how did the quoted piece get past this restriction in the first place.. The post is in the Maiden Newton thread in Historical.

Probably because you're quoting the whole post and therefore the total exceeds the limit whereas each post on it's own doesn't

As they would say in America - 'close, but no cigar'.

The more likely reason is that the post containing the 'extra' smilies was created before the rule was imposed - a 'quote' of an indivudual post while compliant with the rules at the original time of posting is not now compliant. Does that make sense?

Could well be, it was quoted from four years ago.
