Don't like to see any stalwarts precluded by the choice of a specific date; but I'm okay for Feb. 18th.

Further to these, an email that I, amongst many friends, received just before Christmas from Phil Graham, retired former RT/NR Zone/Regional Operations Manager York, and who seems to be a lead of the "L&Y Signalling School" at the NRM, indicated that they are now expanding an additional feature of its publicised dates, started a few months ago.
This is that, apparently at 13:30 on each date, the L&Y model layout,
(with its comprehensive signalling, four or five 'boxes', and full Block instrumentation), is used to go through, demonstrating and explaining, a suitable railway accident / Report from the past in which the signalling and/or one or more signalmen played a significant part : Each date's demonstration being of a different accident.
(In case of interest, just to mention that Phil Graham gave a meeting room-only presentation of one of those such accidents previously demonstrated on the layout, to the Nov.'16 SRS York meeting at the NRM.
This was of the 15/Aug/53 steam-hauled/EMU passenger trains collision on Irk Valley Junction, Collyhurst, Manchester.
Thanks to Phil, the formal report was refreshingly brought to life by his material, analysis, and thorough background knowledge of operations detail in general (including how the railway operated as a whole and knowing the front line workers' tasks so well), enabling the meeting to make comments and pose questions of relevance, and ensuing debate was thus authoritatively further illuminating.
Afraid I've no idea of how much such time and interaction is possible on the actual demonstration dates though.)
