I saw the EMT reply to the network change proposal which read as though the movement of the crossover wasn't included, at least initially. The proposed timetable has the Lincoln services leaving Nottingham later and arriving earlier, and a skip stop pattern for the Newark services which certainly allows for a shunt.
;
Hopefully post-resignalling they will re-think that.

The Newark crossover is in the platforms. It has been used in the past for reversing a train which then enters service in the platform but I think this is only possible with a two-car unit because of the length available between the crossover and the end of the UP platform.

I noticed last time I was there a 156 was only just clear after crossing and doubt it will be acceptable following resignalling.

The article refers to boarding it up because it is in a conservation area.

Being a Midland Railway wooden box moving it to another location would be comparitively easy.

The main theme of the article and the comments that follow is that people want to see it preserved where it stood. Their main problem, of course, is the close proximity of the box to the running line, which won't make 'in-situ' preservation easy, particularly for the maintenance needed thereafter.

Is the frame in the rear of the box - just that in the 1968 photo the stove chimney seem to be at the front?

Ideally the crossover ought to be replaced by a facing one on the Nottingham side of the station.

The frame is, indeed, in the rear of the box. There is still the odd piece of MR furniture lurking amidst the 'B&Q' kitchen and computer terminal but sadly the stove is long gone!

A new trailing crossover has been installed at Newark Castle nearer Lincoln. There is what appears to to be the base for a VMS signal just on the Lincoln side of the up platform and no sign of any work between the platform and crossing. Surely the intention isn't to cross the empties over and only allow them into the platform to enter traffic once the barriers are down?
';
It may be for down direction moves but there is no sign of a facing crossover going in nearer Nottingham.

The scheme plan shows the crossover being moved around 13 chains towards Collingham with a new two aspect (red and green) NN4091 to take trains back from the Up platform towards the Down line.

Is there a target date for resignalling of Fiskerton, Lowdham and Staythorpe?

Road closures will affect the level crossings as shown below to allow the installation of the new crossing equipment. pedestrian access will be maintained with an attendant on duty and a special method of working in place. At Newark Castle only half the road will be closed so no special working will be required.

Code: Select all
Lowdham - 17/09/2016 to 03/10/2016
Bleasby - 17/09/2016 to 03/10/2016
Fiskerton Jn (Morton) - 08/10/2016 to 24/10/2016
Rolleston - 08/10/2016 to 24/10/2016
Fiskerton Station - 08/10/2016 to 22/10/2016
Staythorpe - 22/10/2016 - 07/11/2016
Newark Castle - 15/10/2016 to 16/10/2016 and 06/11/2016 to 07/11/2016

The closure dates for each signal box:
Lowdham - 03/10/2016
Fiskerton Jn - 24/10/2016
Fiskerton Stn - 24/10/2016
Rolleston - 24/10/2016
Staythorpe - 07/11/2016
Newark Castle - 07/11/2016

Follwoing the closure of Lowdham, Fiskerton Jn will form a fringe to EMCC Netherfield W/S with a temporary method of working in place (Expected to be TCB 3.5 working), until Fiskerton Jn, Fiskerton Stn and Rolleston close. When this happens the temporary fringe will move to Staythorpe until 07/11/2016 where the fringe will move permanently to Doncaster PSB.

It comes to a sad end as Staythorpe and Newark Castle have now closed. :cry:

Staythorpe (00:44) and Newark Castle (00:55) respectively on Saturday 05/11/16. After 16 years of working the line i pity the travelling public that no longer see a friendly face at the signal box window and the barren desolation for drivers on the route. Progress? Maybe...

Newark Castle crossing appears to be CCTV rather than Obstacle Detector . I presume the others are OD?
