I suspect that there were odd examples the other way round to, but the fact that a fixed distant arm doesn't actually move (or at least one hopes it wouldn't) means that the driver would only be faced with something he recognises.

Indeed, I know of one at Highbridge on the S&D, where there was a 'fixed' LQ distant in between UQ stop and SA arms on the same post. Given that the distant had been fixed long before the original LQ arms were replaced by UQ, no doubt it was considered an unnecessary expense to renew the fixed arm.

. . . but that has nothing to do with the question about the banner signals near Glasgow, the subject under discussion.

Can we pleeeeeeeease stay on topic here and post separately on other matters.
