I've been after a mechanical banner for my collection for a few years, when I first started asking, any replaced by fibre optic versions were "strategic spares", it looks like though I've missed the boat and all are now LED and very few mechanical versions are left!

So, can anyone help please? Where are they still in use (and my be resignalled, so I may stand a chance) or are there any for sale (at a sensible price!)

Cheers

Peter

Hi Peter

I have sent you a PM . I do have a banner surplus to requirements.

There is a nice example on the up main platform at Haslemere on the Portsmouth direct. Its replacement is under construction behind it.

The North Yorkshire Moors Railway S&T department have just commissioned a new mechanical banner repeater at the north end of platform 2 at Pickering station that repeats the main aspect of the platform Starter, NB7.

I'm not sure that the NYMR's banner repeater is particularly helpful to Peter's request for examples that are for sale - unless their S&T department have very quickly decided they don't want one after all!

There is also one within the Birmingham New Street PSB area and last time I travelled past it I noticed that the replacement signalling for transfer to WMSC (?) appears to be being put in place.

I refer, for anyone not in the know, to NS338R which is between Galton Junction and Smethwick Rolfe Street.

I guess that is the one on the line to platform 3: even though I have been through BHI many a time I hadn't noticed the presence of that repeater. Is it easy to photo? I notice there is a bridge just on the Coventry side of the station so I don't know if it could be seen from there in such a way as to get a face-on view.

It is on the line to platform 3 line. You can see it on youtube on a Coventry to BHI cab ride, it looks very hard to photo, the bridge on the Coventry side is behind the repeater.

All information gratefully received, thanks.

Who's leading that part of the BNS area resignalling?

Cheers
