Well on Friday night we lost two more boxes with the closures of Huddersfield PSB and Healey Mills PSB which will reopen on Monday morning (22nd January) under the control of York ROC.

Healey Mills is understood to have closed first (0030hrs) while Huddersfield is understood to have closed at 0036hrs

Best of luck to all the signalmen from those boxes, whatever they go on to do next.

Presumably these areas are now controlled from York ROC?

Was there an equipment driven need to close Healey Mills?

Much of the retained layout will surely need complete renewal, at least one of the new signals reads from a siding with trees growing from it, if ever to be used again and wibble is that plans exist to realign the two running lines parallel instead of round opposite sides of the yard/nature reserve. Horbury Junction works to York both ways.
When Ashton Moss goes in April Baguley Fold works in three directions to Manchester ROC - one can imagine some rather surreal conversations between signallers!

Given the extent of resignalling likely to be required by the trans-Pennine electrification, I thought that these two boxes would soldier on a bit longer. So like Mike, I wonder why they were chosen above others when the NR ROC plans have been delayed. Then again, maybe electrification beyond Stalybridge is only a dream....

Wakefield Kirkgate box is still with us, so Horbury Junction still works to that, and to Woolley Coal Sidings or Barnsley (by absolute block) in the third direction.

Thanks - I erroneously thought Wakefield Kirkgate had been recontrolled long ago.
