We're only feeding a few volts into our computer, so standard microswitches are quite adequate for our needs.
While we've recently experienced rodent attack in the garden, we've kept the box clear of such problems. We only have the one wire to our demo signal in the garden, and that runs through a 12mm hole, unlike operational boxes which have a large gap at ground level for the greater number of wires and point rods. We have a rather nice model cat upstairs - which gives us a reason to explain to our visitors why many boxes had a cat!
