CP5 Re-signalling/Re-control Scheme Forecast Commissionings

Unread postby collexions » Sun Nov 5, 2017 3:19 pm

Thought I'd share the latest forecasts of NR's active projects and their associated commissioning dates:

22/01/2018 - Huddersfield-Bradford Recontrol: Stage 1 - Heally Mills & Huddersfield
29/01/2018 - Blackpool-Preston Resignalling & Recontrol: Stage 1 - Preston-Kirkham-Blackpool(South)
26/03/2018 - Blackpool-Preston Resignalling & Recontrol: Stage 2 - Kirkham-Blackpool(North)
26/03/2018 - North Wales Coast Resignalling & Recontrol: Stage 1 - Chester-Llandudno Jnc. (excl)
09/05/2018 - Wavertree Resignalling & Recontrol: Stage 2&3 - Halton & Ditton Stage
27/03/2018 - Ferriby-Gilberdyke Recontrol
20/10/2018 - Huddersfield-Bradford Resignalling: Stage 2 - Halifax (Hebden Bridge, Milner Royd, Halifax, Bradford Mill Lane SBs)
31/12/2018 - Newhaven/East Coast Resignalling
31/12/2018 - Wavertree Resignalling & Recontrol: Stage 1 - Allerton & Speke Stage
31/03/2019 - Aberdeen-Inverness Resignalling & Recontrol: Stage 2 - East interventions - 31/03/2019 (Dyce & Inverurie SBs)
31/03/2019 - Norwich-Lowestoft Resignalling

Several others forecast for Xmas 2018, but they're large schemes and aren't yet live, so sceptical that they'll make end of CP5 (April 2019).

Do you as yet have any updates on provided information, ie Bristol Temple Meads over Easter?

Thanks for posting.

Bristol station recontrol is going ahead over Easter 2018 (well, it was last week anyway). Filton Bank 4 Tracking is going ahead over Xmas/New Year 2018/9.

Probably a slightly dense question, but can I ask what is the difference between re-signalling and re-control?

Thanks,

Re-control involves no (or minimal) changes on the ground, with the signals etc. simply being controlled from a new location. Re-signalling implies more drastic changes on the ground.

Thanks - but then, why is Ferriby to Gilberdyke described as 're-control' when it involves the replacement of semaphores by colour-lights and the abolition of a number of mechanical signalboxes? Conversely, Newhaven/East coast is described as resignalling, although I understand all the signals on the Newhaven/Seaford branch are relatively new colour-lights (2013). All that needs doing is the transfer of control from the existing boxes to Three Bridges ROC, which sounds like re-control!

A NR press release issued last week refers to "recontrol" from Ferriby to Gilberdyke, which I initially misread as meaning it was happening next weekend. However a report on another group suggests it will now not happen this year.

Not all the signals on the Newhaven and Seaford line are colour light signals though. There are still a couple of semaphore signals about and most of the points at Newhaven Harbour still mechanically worked. In addition Absolute Block still exists between Newhaven Town and Newhaven Harbour.

The only signals that were new in 2013 were those controlled from Newhaven Town, when I believe the lever frame was replaced by a temporary panel. Lewes signal box is also due to go at some point, and that panel in that box dates from 1976.

Seems after CP5 the big bang projects will be either delayed or cancelled

Nothing much for EA and mend and make do seems the approach so we hear.

The DfT has clearly stated that in CP6 NR will only be funded for maintenance and renewal, with a separate budget to allow completion of major projects started in CP5 but that need to be completed, due to delays, in CP6. Future major projects will be separately funded, and may be delivered by partners other than NR. This has come about due to the inability of NR to deliver enhancement projects to time and budget.

To be fair no rail company has managed to complete a project on time and within budget. Cromer line resig 17mill end up 30mill.
As for private investment lol takes 20_40 years to get your money back on sleepers let alone anything else

Sorry my intention was not to start a political post. I was merely pointing what was happening from CP5 into CP6 what I have been told, also making it a full story saying why it wouldn't change.

I will go back to lucking instead :)
