The Lines between Newcastle and Berwick Upon Tweed appear to be signalled for reversible signalling. Is this the longest stretch in the U.K.? What also appears unique many of the signals in the reversible direction are Automatic and display proceed aspects until such times a train is proceeding normal direction causes the signal aspects to step down unlike other installations in the U.K. where they would display restrictive aspects until a route was set in the reversible direction.

The reversible sections between Elderslie and Kilwinning behave in the same way, as does Innerwick-Grantshouse which the designer (wonder who that was!) modelled on Ayrshire as the only “frame of reference” available at the time.
